Lac qui Parle Mission

Explorer and fur trader Joseph Renville who had established a nearby trading post here in 1826, invited missionaries to Lac qui Parle to share Christianity, Euro-American culture and agriculture methods with the Dakota. These missionaries developed a Dakota alphabet and translated the Bible and many hymns into the Dakota language.
